Summer Sports Actvities
Every summer (May to August) we put down a temporary floor over half of our green (600sqm). This was acquired through grants from the City of York Council and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, and its main purpose is to provide much needed additional dedicated sports facilities for disabled participants. The floor is permanently marked out with 2
boccia courts and 2
badminton courts. Additionally we offer
carpet bowls,
new age curling and
table tennis.
These activities are available on a "pay as you go" basis, and regular users will benefit from our £5.00 summer membership. Please ring (01904) 750230 to check availability and book a court.
We have a Community Session every Friday aimed predominently, but not exclusively at, adult disabled and learning difficulty users, and for £2.00 you can join in either or both of the "Danceability" session (10.30am - 11.30am) and the "Bowlsability" session (12.30pm - 1.30pm). Carers are free and snack and restaurant facilities are available between sessions.
We are pleased to welcome every Thursday evening the First York Boccia Club and we are also supporting the training programme of York athletes participating in the Special Olympics to be held in Leicester in July 2009.
