We work closely with City of York Special Olympics to provide competitive opportunities to athletes with learning difficulties The club is delighted to support athletes of 4 sports in participating at Special Olympic events.
We have also hosted Special Olympic regional events and have offered the venue as host to what would be the first national bowls tournament.
We are indebted to our coaches and volunteers who make attendance at these events possible, often helping to run the event as well as support the athletes .
The next event to be hosted here will be a Yorkshire & Humberside bowls tournament on Sunday 15th April 2012.
Athletes willing to train regularly can be supported in bowls, short mat bowls, new age kurling and Boccia .
A taster session of these sports was held at David Lloyd Centre , Hull Road York between 2pm -4pm on Saturday 24th September 2011 and members of the bowls club were there to support
City of York Special Olympics entered a boat in the York Rotary Dragonboat race on Sunday 10th July . Amongst the crew was Gemma Broadhead, gold medal winning bowls player.
